old parliament house also got corner

i found our something interesting yesterday, that the old parliament house also got corner. a particular group of people, of a certain pedigree were sitting around parliament house doing something which they are deemed to do best. not that they are kinda good at it, but they seem to be perfected in the skills of holding it and pretending to play it. maybe not pretending. maybe just holding it.

and surprisingly, the parliament house got such spacious steps that it made me wonder why these people choose to busker by the corner of those steps. hmmm. didnt know parliament house got corner.

as the saying goes, 'relak one corner and play guitar.'

and weird things happened, ryan, safi and I kena by some crazy indian guy on the bus. he started to talk to ryan and ryan didnt know he was talking to him. quotable quotes from that guy include,
1) too much baggage is bad baggage
2) you deaf?
3) You dont understand me? I speak British English and studied in American schools.
4) what did you do yesterday? I'm not talking about today or tomorrow, yesterday...
5) What did you learn to forget?

i still dont quite understand why a person can speak British English when he or she attends American schools.

pre u seminar

as yane put it, pre u scam.

simple. easy. and nice to call. pre u scam.

finished whatever nonsensical emcee duties i had. 2 days ago. eh no. 3 days ago. server lag. nothing much happened, except for a few nonsensical things.
1) NYJC went out of tune singing the song. totally hilarious
2) a ever so violent RJC guy stated his comment on someone's presentation when it was supposed to be a question. and obviously, the guy got shot down by me, with the approval of everyone else in the lt.
3) the MJC guy who wanted to ask question didnt even managed to ask a single question. too bad, no favours done to FD* people who ask FD* questions.
4) overall a job well done by myself.
5) bought foot-long sub and shared with shane.
6) was gaying around and stating about how i felt that OWEN HARGREAVES is super hot.
7) number of people who wanted to ask questions were so dang many that i was almost fainting just thinking about the numbers.
8) there were still about 10 people waiting to ask questions when i only can allow 1 minute worth of questions to be asked.
9) logically, the superb me dismissed the whole crowd to just 1 random soul asking A question

and somehow. i dont feel i miss NTU. even when i keep telling myself its the last time i will be in this lt. this super super super big lt. i dont even seem to miss the surroundings. and that's great. at least i dont feel like i want to keep going back to NTU.

judging from my tone. it seems to be a job well done. something that no one can better, and no one is even close...

and seriously. owen hargreaves is really dang hot. not that i am gay or something.

harmonica

went to chang yang's harmonica concert. saw many olde friends. including long time never see friend, wayne. sad to say, he pangseh us for a girl. basket. many random things happened. many many many.

Reasons for a random night:
1) the emcees said 5 girls will perform on the harmonica, but ben, swee tong, junqi, fazall and i just screamed for chang yang. (note: chang yang is a guy...)
2) We were shouting 'i love you chang yang'. and that seriously didnt sound right
3) the song bengawan solo was played, and i exclaimed loudly, 'Hungry siah!'
4) after intermission, the vj councillor girl pointed in the direction of the performance theatre and signalled me and junqi to go in. and shortly after, this conversation occured:
girl: please make your way into the theatre
me: ok. But what if i go in and dont sit, you never told me to be seated.
girl: (nothing was said, but there was this weird look on her face)
me: (i just laughed and walked in)
5) played with spongebob cards
6)saw matt ho at every single corner of the sch
7) kena recognised at the bus stop by some girl, who APPARENTLY knew me, my name, and some other details about me. i was like, 'oh noz, who are you?'. until i realised that that was my pri sch friend, deborah. hmmm. wth. some friend i am.

i think still got many more. hmmm.

argh. tmrw is my day. my day to kena be the emcee.

man oh man. look at how poor my england is at the previous sentence.

hols

this hols is only good for 7 things:
1) Study for mid years
2) Meet up with old friends
3) Get to know new friends
4) Chasing girls
5) Trying to salvage lost friendships in the course of the past 6 months or more
6) Play music instruments(guitar, piano)
7) Write songs

everything applies to me except option 5. and if anyone feels that they seem to suffer from a lost or broken friendship with me since some time ago, please feel free to approach me.

i just got so inspired that i wrote a song. but the sad thing was that i didnt have a manuscript with me to write it down. so it got lost. and never penned down.

i got a new baby. its transparent green. dont know what to call it yet... greenie? or veggie as chang yang proposed.

hmmm. veggie. not a bad name for a guitar.

elearning

it seems like e learning is cancelled. i just got an sms. and i think it might be because of me. haha. read excerpt below to find out more.

elearning is not a big fat joke. its so good that there isnt enough bandwidth for anyone to download anything properly. its so good that we can eat our breakfast while we dl the modules and find out after finishing our breakfast that the module is not downloaded. its so good that we go for second round of breakfast and come back to find out that our download progress has been halted and jammed. its so good that we get to practise our computer skills and click the link again to download the module again.its so good that i feel paying 20 bucks is too value for money with the little bandwidth we get.its really so good that i didnt even manage to download any module for chem at all.

posted this in the elearning portal. my my my. junjie. how daring you have become.

-cher-

that day sucks. specifically, that day refers to yesterday. didnt even want to come to sch early that day. cos the first period, as always on wednesdays, are no periods at all. and then, the second period was econs, of which ng swee chu wasnt in sch, so officially have lesson, unofficially no lesson. the third lesson, was a lame, stupid, useless and boring econs lecture, of which we finished the syllabus and as of my experience in the lecture hall the last time, all we did in econs lecture was to just: 1. go in
2. sit down
3. shift the table up
4. take out notes
5. read
6. and after reading, either stare at the ceiling or keep making wth/wtf signs

and within myself, unanimously, i opted not to go for that nonsensical lecture. but the only econs tutor in mj at that time, karen ng, i heard, was calling for everyone to come back to the lt. seems like almost all of the lt had ponned the lecture, just like me... and unshockingly, i got a few calls from my classmates. all of which to get me to come back to the lt. after a long time of pondering, i decided to head back to the lt. and of course. awaits a 'lecture' from the econs tutor. and seriously, while i felt that some parts of whatever she said was right, some parts were not right. the only parts right in what she said is perhaps the part where she mentioned about being disrespectful to the lecturers when u dont attend their lectures. that's quite true. but then again, wouldnt it be more disrespectful to the lecturers to know that their students are whiling, wasting, and abandoning their time away in the desolate lt, instead of spending that 50 mins on more productive activities like studying somewhere else for econs or maybe other subjects. in whatever retrospect, i feel that the most disrespectful thing that can happen to a lecturer is when the student you have flunks his or her exams. and that my friends, is the worst crap on earth. not, not attending unproductive lectures.

the rest of the periods were seriously not productive, where peter goh spent 1 whole dang period trying to explain 1 sub part of a qn. i seriously dont understand that bugger. he tries to explain but yet makes us more confused. and then, for 2 whole periods, which is equivalent to 1hr and 40mins, he only managed to get 1 explanation right. the rest of the explanations were either crap or nonsense. and then we were down to jalan besar.

yane and i decided to jump the gate. then hian peng joined us. we managed to jump over the gates and i think hian peng went home while yane and i went to jalan besar on our own. met up with pflug, thompson and 2 of their friends to eat lunch. and i must say that my presence at jalan besar was only for 2 reasons. 1 is to collect guitar. a new guitar. and the second, is to watch the match. and indeed, the match was rather thrilling. the match ended 3-1. with mj winning. stood up throughout the whole match and suddenly saw cherish walk past. then i told philip:
me: i think cherish is really beautiful
philip: she's an emcee for pre u seminar
me: u think i dont know meh? i still think she's really beautiful
philip: yeah, i think so too

then after that we were cracking stupid jokes like going up to an mj person and shaking the person's hands and saying: Congratulations, your sch won.
philip suggested going to the vj side and suddenly just exclaiming: hey, my sch won man! i wonder which sch lost to us?

freaking basket. but in the end we didnt even dare to do em'. it was too risky and we didnt want to risk getting injured on that day. then when the match ended, and when everyone was leaving, suddenly i saw 'morning'. she turned back and looked in me direction. and at that time, i was hugging my guitar like i was hugging someone. i was short of kissing it and making it known to everyone that i am truly in love with my guitar. i think she looked stunned at that time. but then she walked away and it only seems that i can only see her after the hols. dang. dang. dang.

collected guitar, watched match, talked to puey and bong. went for dinner with chang yang, ben, fazall, and chang yang's friend, xiao yi. weird name for a guy. either way, i dont think its spelt that way, but at least i think that how its pronounced. swensens. lame and stupid jokes. and leecy invited me to his harmonica concert this sat. hmmm. after that, fazall kept talking with his friends all the way. while ben, chang yang, chang yang's friend and meself, kept ourselves busy chatting. fazall was talking to someone who looked rather familiar to me all the way from the Famous Amos shop to the mrt station. hmmm. maybe its just that she's one of mj ppl that's y i found her familiar. hmmm. hmmm. hmmm. do i know that person?

'morning' will come to me one day.

and i cannnot believe my ears. itunes just played a song for me in random. guess what's the name... its 'i love you dawn' by Crowded House.

and no. it doesnt represent me at all :)

NTU (rehearsal)

super ridiculous day, where i had to wake up at 5am so that i can reach sch at 5.45am. and since ben tan stayed around me area, decided to bring him along since my father is bringing me there so early in the morning. and upong reaching the sch, saw many people also walking into the sch compound. walked in with ben tan, then reached the sch foyer. after reaching the sch foyer for some time, suddenly, some girl exclaimed.

girl (unknown): whoa. i stay in Punggol and the cab fare costs me 9 bucks!
me: (i was shocked for a moment until i thought of the midnight surcharge taxis have)
me: (then i said) u should have asked around who stays around your area, then can bring u here. If i had known, i would have offered for you to come along with us. we stay the same are. (note: us - ben and me)

yeah. exactly. the teachers should have asked and checked around who stays where, compile a list and maybe see if people living in the same area have got people to bring them to sch or even share a cab, and ultimately share the cost.

then thereafter, boarded a damn retro bus. look like those 60s SBS bus. and on the way there, the whole bus was asleep, except for me, ben tan, revvo, leon, and chong lip. the rest were soundly asleep. it didnt take long before we reached NTU. was dropped off at the NTU audi outside. had to help ms koh take some panel discussion rehearsal stuff with chong lip and went into the audi. well, not really into the audi. just outside, but in the building. put down the stuff on the floor and started to try to stone when i heard that MY REHEARSAL ONLY STARTS A 11am! and the time at that point of time was about 7am. that's 4 fours of nonsense. time wasting and things like that. leon suggested playing chess. international chess. so we sat down and opened up his new pack of chess set, put the chess set on the boxes and started playing. and due to the fact that people all around us were also freaking bored, they started to swamp around us to watch us, since there's nothing better to do. and being the people playing chess with people around us watching, it kinda made me feel a little guilty when i am playing chess to relieve time while they are just stoning beside us. and seriously, some of the girls watching the game were pretty. but that's besides the point. the point is that i trashed leon. with the help of revvo to checkmate him. i destroyed most of his pieces but couldnt checkmate him.

and then i saw cherish behind me copying math notes. hmmm. so early in the morning and copying maths notes. that was really power. and seriously,
for a moment, she looked beautiful copying the notes. (mine 'for a moment' thing is BACK!)

after that, the game with leon had to be halted cos we needed to move to our venues. and when the pp people reached the venue, it was very veryvery old and shabby. but lucky its not mine LT. but having said that, when i went to my LT, i had a huge shock. cos my LT is about 1 and a half times of LT 4. and dang, that is BIG.

and after that, it was a torturous 10 presentations to rush through. and super boring PW style nonsense. with occasional little chats with the presenters, like that girl from nyjc, who keeps trying to ask me if their presentation was good. and of which i didnt say good or not, maintaining a politically correct stance. and that girl from sajc looks like someone i know, and everytime i see her, i keep thinking of my friend. just like me keep thinking of aloysius everytime i see elizabeth. no choice. who ask them to look so alike.

and the rest of boring...

or ya, i still need to look for that girl who stays around me area. actually, she wanted to give me her hp no alr, but cos i needed to do my emcee work, then i said later then i get from her, but i didnt know she go home so early. argh. need to find her in sch then.

Essay

Before Zenith even publish this essay... i will post it up...
here...

Title of Essay:
Does Singapore need more rebels in order to thrive in the twenty-first century?

Rebel; a word distinctively characterised by Che Guevara, the world’s most famous rebel. The changing global landscape has inevitably brought about changes in the definition of rebels in the twenty-first century. The twenty-first century marks a period somewhat similar to the Renaissance, where creativity is appreciated, and manipulated to generate new ideas and concepts in the realm of technology and science. In short, it is a marriage between the Renaissance and the Industrial Ages. As a result of this matrimony, the definition of rebel has evolved to someone with the creative aptitude to challenge current trends and ideas, and creatively suggest new ideas and trends for the world to adopt. The twenty-first century rebel is also someone with the technological and scientific knowledge, not forgetting the confidence in not being afraid to challenge authority-with the latter explicitly shown by Che Guevara. Just like other countries throughout the globe, Singapore needs more rebels than it currently has, which is close to negligible, to thrive in the competitive twenty-first century.

Peace has an inverse relationship with rebellion. With a large number of rebels, peace will be almost impossible to achieve. However, in the twenty-first century, good old-fashioned peace is still of utmost importance as an objective for governments, including Singapore. Singapore is a country highly dependent on its people and foreign firms to bring in the dough necessary for the survival of Singapore. Without peace and stability, people will start to move away from Singapore, foreign and local firms will begin to pull out of this small equatorial nation. Should this happen, the result would be devastating. Rebels challenge conventional ideas, which in turn sacrifice the peace and stability in a country, and may have detrimental effects as mentioned. However, just as much as peace and stability are key to Singapore’s growth, Singapore has to keep up with the world’s new-age creative thinking, as supplied by twenty-first century rebels like Sir Richard Branson, to maintain its growth in years to come. And thus, while rebels disrupt the peace and stability Singapore has, they are key and necessary to Singapore’s growth.

Rebels bring about new economic opportunities as they propose radical ideas, opposing the current ones. Entrepreneurship itself requires an element of rebellion, where these entrepreneurs are not afraid to venture into new grounds. This challenges the conventional concept that venturing into new grounds is not feasible and will only backfire upon them. Especially, in an Asian country like Singapore, where ethical moral values and cultures are adopted, rebelling is considered taboo, and even unheard of in certain Asian countries. While other countries have appreciated the value rebels have and benefited from the economic opportunities they bring, Singapore needs to start appreciating the work of rebels so as to reap its benefits. Sir Richard Branson, a self proclaimed rebel billionaire, is the epitome of how rebels bring about news opportunities. He was unafraid to take his business to space, when he announced the concept of space travel during the launch of his new space travel company. While Singapore has Sim Wong Hoo, the founder of Creative Technology, who listed Creative on the NASDAQ and also unafraid to venture into the American market, she does not have enough of such twenty-first century rebels, who bring about new economic opportunities. And therefore, for Singapore to thrive in such a competitive environment, she needs her own brand of rebels to lead the pack, promoting economic growth.

Singapore is largely known on the world map as a ‘one-party-state’, with the People’s Action Party (PAP) being the dominant driving force of the government. The only ‘known rebels’ in the Singapore Government was the opposition parties, who currently hold 2 seats in the Parliament, Low This Khiang and Chiam See Tong, as well as Sylvia Lim as a Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP). However, this is not enough. Singapore needs to understand that while she hones new rebels in other areas to aid in her growth, she also needs rebel politicians, who are unafraid to take up or propose new measures. These rebel politicians also need to be proactive in formulating policies that encourage more from the minority rebels in Singapore, and also be able to promote the need for rebels in Singapore to Singaporeans effectively. In the political scene, she needs two kinds of rebels, the first being one who can propose new measures and the second being one who is daring enough to adopt these new measures. While PAP can argue that its new generation of politicians are already such ‘rebels’, Singaporeans should understand that they are not the kind of rebels in PAP that we desire – the rebels we desire are politicians who can offer an alternative voice to the powerful lawmakers in PAP. These rebels also need to be able to engage in a war of words to critically analyse new measures and policies brought up and attempt to improve them for the better of Singaporeans. The current political rebels in Singapore still lack the appropriate oral skills to effectively challenge PAP, who are far too powerful in their dominance of governance. Should Singapore be able to hone high calibre political rebels, she would then be able to better prepare herself for challenges brought about in the twenty-first century.

As defined in the first paragraph, the twenty-first century is a marriage between the Renaissance and the Industrial Ages, where artistic and the creative use of technology and science are favoured. Singapore has already taken her first steps in preparing herself for the twenty-first century by inviting the animation firm of George Lucas, Lucasarts, to set up an animation firm in Singapore. Animation is a mixture of art and technology, with the use of technology and science to animate out artistic and creative characters and scenes. The animation film, The Zodiac, which was created and animated by Singaporeans, shows us a glimpse of what our own animators can do. However, Singapore must understand that we need more of such artistic rebels, in order to bring industries, like the 3D animation industry to a whole new level, comparable or even better than films made by foreign firms like Ratatouille by Pixar. The success of a Singaporean rebel, Dr George Quek, who has challenged conventional breads to come up with artistic and fanciful bread flavours and designs as sold in his chain of bread stores, Breadtalk, an example of how Singapore has benefited from her rebels. Therefore, Singapore needs more rebels, people who can challenge conventions, to enable her to thrive in the twenty-first century.

While it is important to have rebels throughout every industry and sector in a country, we still have to take into account the peace and stability that rebels take away. In a small country like Singapore, susceptible and vulnerable to small events occurring within the geographical boundary of itself, she has to strike a balance between rebels and peace. Rebels and peace are both important reagents in the cauldron of Singapore’s growth, each with its advantages and disadvantages. The twenty-first century calls for more competition between countries, as well as the need for rebelling. Thus, it is of utmost importance that Singapore should strive to hit common ground between the need for rebels and the need for peace, as she strives to promote the birth of more rebels in her country, in order to survive the daunting requirements of the twenty-first century.

and this: is 1229 words.

Hot from the oven.
